XinTianDi!! I would say this area is similar to Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong. For those that don’t know what LKF is then, I am referring to this place as a bar area. This is a pretty popular expat area, with a lot of western food (American, German) along with local asian cuisine (Japanese, Shanghainese). I came here a couple of times because 1) I wanted German Food 2) I wanted to drink some beer. There is also a shopping mall close by for you ladies, and a theatre if you want to catch a movie.
For me, it was all about the bars and restaurants here. Admittedly, I’ve only ventured into a couple of bars here, but they have some great happy hour deals here (one beer for RMB40). Coming here on a weeknight was also really fun, since the area was packed with people.
There is a downside though, when I was trying to leave on a Friday night, I had to queue up for a taxi. The wait for the cab was almost 1 hour. I don’t know why, but in China there seems to be a lack of cab drivers. Further, I find that in China cabbies tend to reject you more so than any other culture / city / country. I don’t know if its because I was wearing my Boston Red Sox Shirt, or if it was because my hotel was far (I stayed at Honqiao which is like suburbs), but I got rejected quite a bit. That was kind of frustrating.
