and the amazing spiderman
Ok first of all, I know I am behind in my movies. But this is not going to stop me from putting my two cents on this film.
I got a haircut today. It was 3:30PM when I was done, and had the rest of the day to kill. Walked by Cineplex, and took a quick glance at the movies that was showing.
Dark Knight Rises
I promised I would watch Dark Knight with a friend, so this option was out. I’ve never watched the bourne series, so I guess I should watch the first three before watching this one.
So that leaves the Amazing Spiderman.
Truth be told, I am not a big fan of the franchise. Therefore, I was quite skeptical when it came to this rebooted film.
I was surprised. This was actually a very, very good movie.
Here’s my analysis as to why it was better than it’s predecessor:
Peter Park was played by Tobey Maguire in the first three films, with Andrew Garfield being the nerdy spidey in this new installment. Here’s how they both looked like in the film:
I was never really sold on Tobey Maguire as Spiderman. I can’t explain why. It just wasn’t doing it for me. I especially remember the scene where he became emo. Uh..no…lol.
Andrew Garfield on the other hand, was so much better at the role. There was something raw about him that made spiderman more real. I also liked the fact that he brought a darker tone to the character.
Winner? Andrew Garfield
Here’s Kirsten Dunst as MJ in the first three movies:
And here’s Emma Stone as Gwen:
Really..is there a comparison!? I never thought of Kirsten Dunst as pretty, nor talented. In fact, she annoyed me in the spiderman movies.
Emma Stone’s character was different. She was funny, pretty, and not your typical pain in the ass weak female character.
Oh, and she’s hot.
Winner? Emma Stone by a landslide.
Side note: See this cute video of Emma Stone dancing on Ellen haha.
In terms of plot, it was very similar between this one and the previous three. You have Peter Parker being bitten by a spider, going through the struggles of being a super hero etc etc. However, I was actually absorbed into the story line this time, maybe because the delivery by this cast was that much stronger.
There were funny scenes, but overall I found the Amazing Spiderman to have a much more serious tone, which I liked.
Therefore winner? Amazing Spiderman.
Not much difference in terms of villain. You basically have a bad ass villain terrorizing the city.
HOWEVER. I do have one beef with one villain in a previous spiderman movie.
Come on!!! His appearance was so anticipated. I was so excited. Venom is one of the most popular villians of all time. And it had to share screen time with the sandman!
More background for Venom would’ve been appreciated. They should’ve built Venom up to be more badass.
See —> Joker in Batman.
I really hope, for this new rebooted franchise, if they do have Venom again, to have him much more bad ass.
Not a really big Eason fan, but this old song is pretty catchy. It’s basically about how people work so hard for money, that they forgot what happiness is.
Mm…food for thought.
