Airlie Beach

Vacationnnnnnnnnnnnnn.  Love vacation because I absolutely don’t need to do anything.  Let’s see what a typical itinerary consists of my vacation:

  • Eating
  • Sleeping
  • A bit of sight seeing

That’s it. Nothing too intense.  That is my ideal vacation.  Doing nothing.  If someone asks me what did I do in Airlie Beach, I will say nothing.  Which is perfectly fine with me, even if they give me this weird smile.  Go eat shit I don’t care I like my vacation.

Well hold on, where the hell is Airlie Beach you are thinking?  Good question, to be honest I have never heard of Airlie Beach until, well I landed.  And I didn’t even land into Airlie Beach, I landed at Hamilton Island where I then had to take 1 hour ferry ride to the Port of Airlie.   Then I found out I was actually on the main land and not on the island, so then why did I just not take a flight to the mainland.  Anyways, that’s my planning for ya.

Instead of me trying to tell you the history of Airlie Beach, let’s just copy an excerpt from Google, of Airlie Beach:

Airlie Beach, an Australian resort town on Queensland’s Whitsunday Coast, is a gateway to the Whitsunday Islands and the Great Barrier Reef. Sea cruises depart from the Port of Airlie, Abell Point Marina and Shute Harbour. The Airlie Beach Lagoon is a man-made swimming area with a family-friendly beach and park. The town is also known for nightlife ranging from backpacker bars to clubs

Bam! Straight to the point.  Wait this town is known for night life?? err…I guess…I guess that makes sense since once of the bars / clubs was playing super loud music.  Weird, for a town of 8000….I guess it is a launching pad for the Whitsunday islands so everyone just comes back here. I don’t know.

So yeah, first day on Airlie Beach we just walked around.  First impressions?  Super quiet! Love it! Great contrast from Sydney, Hong Kong, Toronto etc etc.  I think there were more boats than actual humans in this area.  Which leads to my next few points.

  • I want a boat.
  • I want to learn how to drive a boat.

The next questions will be, why don’t you.  well simple.

  • I got no money!

If I had a billion dollars, I would buy a boat and just go out to sea whenever the weather permits (because going out during a Thunderstorm is just dumb).  I would learn how to drive my boat, and invite 100 models over.  Just because I can, but probably they are coming because I am a billionaire.

One day….

Airlie Beach is a lovely town to visit if you have the time.  I recommend though that you go out and visit the islands nearby (like Day Dream and Hamilton).  You can probably do all of Airlie in half a day…just saying.

But I was okay with not going around the islands because this was a do nothing vacation.

Which is exactly what the doctor ordered.
