Holiday

CANADA DAY

Hope everyone had an enjoyable long Canada day weekend!! Apparently it was the country’s 145th birthday. I should read up more on Canada’s history, so that when someone asks me about the country I can at least tell them something, instead of “we play hockey and there’s winter”.

So I hope you all did something interesting.  I didn’t do much for the Canada Day Holiday, other than eat and watch sports.

Just thought it would be fun to post the actual definition of holiday.

I love definition # 2.  Exemption from work!!!

When it comes to a holiday, there are two things I like to do the most:

VACATION!!

Ok..so the holiday probably needs to be mixed in with you taking vacation / time off from work or school.  But travelling is one of my favourite things to do.  I haven’t been to too many places, but maybe I will blog about the places I’ve been so far in my next post…mmm yes maybe I will haha.

I love going on a vacation.  You don’t have to work, everyday you’re out having fun and eating good food.  The downside?? Your bank account decreases substantially.

I should just take a year off though, and just travel around the world.  Right.  Don’t think I can do that now, given the debt I am in.  Maybe in the future though.

If you can’t go away during the holidays..what’s the second best thing??

…..

Doing Nothing!

Sometimes doing nothing staying at home, resting/sleeping can do wonders.  Being out right lazy is a good thing (for a little while).  You work so hard your entire life, bumming in your bed for a day or two won’t hurt anybody or anything.

My favourite?

Bum in my bed while putting a movie/show on! Speaking of which, I am watching a Hong Kong drama right now..I forgot what the english name of the drama is but I really like one of the actress..she’s called Kate Tsui:

Dam…….I need to go HK and find her now!! I digress..

Long weekend

For the long weekend, I couldn’t do any of the two above (well I did some of number 2 but not as much as I wanted).  Here’s a recap of what I did:

The long weekend started well for me, as I am currently enjoying summer hours at my work place.  When I was going through the interview process with my current employer, they didn’t even bring this fact up.  I think it’s a very, very good selling point for potential candidates that they want to recruit.  I mean, who wouldn’t like getting off at 1PM for 2 months during the summer?  I was ecstatic last year when I found out.  Last year I was still residing in Downtown Toronto, so I was able to enjoy the harbour a lot.  This year, since I am uptown I have to think of different things to do.  Blue Jays maybe?  They haven’t been doing particularly well lately, with all the injuries that happened to their starting pitching rotation.

Anyhow, my long weekend wasn’t particularly too busy for me.  Had a couple events that I attended.

Dad’s birthday, and of course Euro Cup!! Going to recap both events today.

Dad’s Birthday

A bunch of us met up early at the kung fu club to set up.  This involved moving the equipment from our club to the restaurant.

Organization is not one of our key attributes, and as such we have to improvise a lot last minute.

For example, although we had a lot of equipment to move, we had no moving truck.

No truck?

No problem.

We got cars still.

Car only has one seat?

No problem.  Fit in a drum:

I asked him what’s the point of a one seater when he got no gal friend.  Why not just get a regular car?  It can help us transport more stuff to different locations. Alas, what is the point when the car can only seat one other passenger? -.-  I guess it looks…goood?? I have no idea.

I drive a Honda Civic.

Arrived at the restaurant, and started setting the place up.  Another key attribute that we are missing as a team is..hard work. Here we see the following person (lets call him PK =p) working hard on setting up flags..

Just kidding.. he worked hard that day.

Mmmmm pork. and dinner.  This place is pretty good. The restaurant is called Lake Tai restaurant located at Kennedy and highway 7.  Didn’t make it to my top 5 food list in my previous post.  Since I’ve had chinese food all my life, it’s really hard to be impressed about dishes that you’ve had every single day.  Maybe one day I will find something that blows me away.

Had a mini performance by the guys (I was not too involved this time), considering it was their first time performing it was pretty good.  Unfortunately, I was playing drums this time, so was unable to take any pictures.  I’ll upload some on facebook once I get it from my peers.

Depsite our lack of key attributes, one thing we do well is work as a team.

..

I am going to blurb a little about Teamwork.

Teamwork

A common phrase is “The chain is only as strong as its weakest link”.  This in a way implies that as a team, you can only be as good as your weakest member allows you to be.  Why can’t it be the other way around?  I think this phrase is not accurate, and is just an excuse for feeling better when there is failure.  If you know there is a weakest link, as the stronger member should you not help / support the weaker members?

You are a team.  You win as a team, and you lose as a team.

..I miss Power Rangers.  It was one of the best series growing up.  I remember waking up early on Saturdays just to catch an episode.  Funny how they would always kill the bad guys with the same move.  I personally think they were at their height during the green ranger era (some may argue the white ranger era as well).  It went downhill from there.  Or.  Maybe I just outgrew the series.

My favourite power ranger?

The Pink one.  Obviously.

Come on! She’s gorgeous.  Plus..we were only 13 back then.

Euro Cup 2012

Watched the Euro Cup Final on Canada Day at Real Sports.  It was Spain versus Italy.  Most of my friends think this was not the ideal match up and I agree. It would’ve been awesome to see Portugal in the final!!  Haha yes I am a big Portugal fan, mainly because of C. Ronaldo.  Yes.  I understand it is pride week, and though I have nothing against people’s sexual orientation, I like C. Ronaldo only for his football handling skills.  You have to admit he’s a really good football player.

Here’s a short clip of him playing:

Spain won the game 4 – 0.  IMO the game was over 10 minutes into the game when they scored the first goal.  Total domination by the Spanish.  Next up, World Cup in Brazil!

Afterwards, headed back uptown to my friends house where we played Mah Jong and Poker.  Played equally bad in both games haha, but it was fun and relaxing nonetheless.

Hopefully get to enjoy more of these soon.

Music

Since we are talking about holidays, naturally the song from Green Day comes to mind.

Green Day was one of the first bands I listened to when I was young. Think it was elementary school when I was introduced them from my exgirl.  Well maybe not ex, unless you count elementary school dating.

I loved their American idiot album, all their songs were good.  I listened to their CD over and over again in the car and on the Iphone / Ipod.

Here’s a live version of the song!

Thank you for reading! Till next time!
