GREAT SERVICE OR GREAT FOOD? A LOCAL HK RESTAURANT REVIEW

What’s more important? Great service or great food?

Ah the age old dilemma. I personally tend to find my dining experience gets soured when I get bad customer service at a restaurant. It’s 50% taste, 50% atmosphere right? And it that atmosphere is shit, then how can I enjoy the food?

Like your food better be fucking blow my ass away for me to take your shit.  But then if your service is super good but food is super average, then its also a shitty experience.

This was the question I faced when Life boss and I went to a local food stall called Chan Kun Kee or 陳根記 for dinner.

We arrived at 630 and it was already PACKED!

So first things first, this place is super PACKED. If you come around 7 then yea, good luck finding a damn table and have fun eating at 9PM.

But I guess being packed is a good sign, means the food has to be good right? I find Hong Kong people have pretty high standards when to food.

Plus the rent is god damn high here, you need to have a constant flow of customers in order to sustain your business.

Anyhow, we sat down looked at the menu and tried to tell this bitchy waitress lady what we wanted to order. Her response?

“WRITE THE ORDER DOWN YOURSELF’.

What a bitch.

bitch!

Women, Choi’s chinese skills are sub par as fuck, so fuck you in making me write in Chinese.

Why can’t you do your job waitress? Like is it that hard to write our orders down? Not to mention our writing is going to look like dog shit, don’t even know if your damn chef can read my writing (seriously I can even draw a straight light).  DO YOUR DAMN JOB WAITRESS.

Stupid bitch.

To calm myself, I told another waitress I wanted some god damn beer.

“GO TO THE CORNER AND BUY YOUR OWN BEER”

fuckyou

What the fuck. I had to go around the corner to this beer girl, to buy beer.  What the fuck don’t they usually come to you?

I was not impressed at this point.  But when our food came, I’m like shit………I need to put with our their shit…..

THE FOOD WAS FUCKING AWESOME!

Let’s go through each dish that we ordered:

  • Wasabi Chicken Dish – Almost everyone in the restuarant ordered this. It was so GOOD! Highly recommended by Choi. Fresh chicken with a hint of wasabi that just makes your taste buds tingle. Such good shit.Untitled
  • The ribs! The ribs were pretty good too, although I think I ordered the wrong ribs. I wanted the saucy ribs, not these dry motherfuckers (even though it was good). The chef probably couldn’t read my writing so he just decided to cook whatever. Untitled
  •  Eating this bitter melon felt so healthy. This was a nice, light dish that balanced well with our other meat dishes. Untitled
  • I think the deliciousness from this place caused us to NOT BE FULL. So what did we do to satisfy our craving? Ordered this steam egg + fish stomach dishUntitled

So back to the original question..

Great service or great food? I think Chan Kun Kee has converted to me to the latter, give me GREAT DELICIOUS FOOD and I will suck your balls for eternity.

Yeah Choi sluts up when it comes to damn good food.

GREAT RESTAURANT, SHITTY SERVICE BUT YOU WILL LOVE THE FOOD.

  1. I think you were visiting the restaurant at FoTan. Once you forget about all those dirty and overcrowded tables and get use to the shitty service, you will definitely love the place and enjoy the excellent dishes.

  2. Heard service in HK sucks at those kind of places. But the allure of good food is too strong! Would probably rant and then go back again LOL
